* Title: Leveraging Online Social Network as Trust Inferences


* Abstract:
Anonymity is one of the main virtues of the Internet and many distributed systems, as it protects privacy and enables users to express opinions more freely. However, anonymity hinders the trustness of distributed systems. Some online users may make false assertions about their identity attributes, such as age or profession. In collaborative systems, some components may generate fake reports to subvert or control the entire system. In this talk, we are going to explore trust inferences which are obtained by using characteristics of Online Social Network, such as Identity Uniqueness and Direct Trust. Identity uniqueness metric is related to the question “how to ensure that an online identity is the distinct real identity?”, and direct trust metric is related to the question “how to ensure that the given shared information is trustable?”. Through the talk, computational methods for each trust metric are introduced, and some case studies which use the OSN based trust metrics for spam filtering (SocialFilter) and credential system (FaceTrust) are explored.

 

* Bio:
Kyungbaek Kim is an assistant professor in the Department of Elecronics and Computer Engineering at Chonnam National University. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1999,2001 and 2007 respectively. Previously he worked at University of California, Irvine as a post doctoral researcher. His research interests include operating system, distributed system, world wide web, peer-to-peer algorithm/network, overlay multicast and online social network. He is a member of IEEE, USENIX, and IEICE.
