Abstract
Modern Personal Mobile Devices (PMDs) are equipped with Trusted Execution Environments to run security-sensitive tasks. Developed initially for Digital Right Management (DRM) to protect copyrighted contents from potential leakage, TEEs are now securely managing the biometric information or passwords for user authentication. This talk first introduces the motivation, application, and design of the TEEs on modern PMDs, taking the ARM TrustZone as an example. In the era of ARM-powered PMDs, a number of PMDs that we use today are using the ARM TrustZone to implement their TEE. Then we will move to a limitation of the TEEs in use, the closeness, and recent efforts to overcome the limitation.
