Title: Reputation System for Large-Scale Internet Fraud Detection

A fraud detection system (FDS) is one of the most important security measures for secure and safe mobile payment. Many FDSes are based on rule-based detection, not effective in modern micro and modern payment environment. Those rules are generated by experts, based on traditional and old risk analysis model. Recently, data-driven and machine learning approaches are preferred to discover all possible suspicious financial transactions. In this talk, a real implementation case of FDS (applied in the third-largest payment service in South Korea) will be introduced. Especially, several important processes for FDS (i.e., the large-scale fraud data collection, building, and tuning of the detection model) will be discussed. In addition, similar internet fraud cases (online game and music streaming service) will be introduced, too.
He received his Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2009. He received an MS degree in industrial engineering from KAIST in 2000. He received a BS degree in industrial management from KAIST in 1998.
He founded A3 Security Consulting, the first information security consulting company in South Korea in 1999. Currently, he is an associate professor in Graduate School of Information Security, Korea University. His recent research is focused on solving many security problems by a data-driven approach in online games, payment system, and automotive driving.
He is now working as the main editor of international standard in ITU-T SG17 Q13, “X.itssec-4:Methodologies for intrusion detection system on in-vehicle systems” and “X.ipscv: Methodologies for intrusion prevention systems for connected vehicles”.
Before joining Korea University, he was a technical director (TD) and a head of the information security department of NCSOFT (2004-2010), one of the most famous MMORPG companies in the world.
